TJ Dillashaw and Gervonta Davis trade shots over potential MMA bout

By Tom Taylor - August 10, 2018

Move over Dominick Cruz, Marlon Moraes, Rafael Assuncao and Henry Cejudo. There’s another contender for TJ Dillashaw’s UFC bantamweight title, and he’s not even a mixed martial artist.

Shortly after Dillashaw knocked out his arch rival Cody Garbrandt in the main even of UFC 227 last weekend, he was called out by Floyd Mayweather Jr. protege Gervonta Davis.

“I wanna fight that dude that fought Cody yesterday,” the undefeated boxer said on Twitter in the wake of Dillashaw’s win.

“MMA,” Davis added, clarifying that he wants the fight to occur under the MMA rule-set.

TJ Dillashaw promptly responded, accepting his Davis’s challenge.

“Bring it!,” the UFC bantamweight champ said. “I heard they were handing out belts after Loma left your division.”

From there, the pair engaged in a heated back-and-forth.

“Is this really you Tweeting or it’s ya hoe John that tweet for you and Loma,” Davis said.

“You wish it was someone else tweeting for me because you know you just put your foot in your mouth,” Dillashaw said.

“If he dares to step in the Octagon I would love to show him how my shin taste,” Dillashaw added, replying to a separate Tweet. “Think he’s a over rated boxer as well with that padded record and I beat him in the ring. [Gervonta] I ain’t scared.”

“Let’s make it happen then pussy,” Davis said.

“I kno I’ll knock TJ out,” the boxer added.

While this is all pretty entertaining, it’s unlikely that the fight actually happens. Davis would get smoked in an MMA fight with TJ Dillashaw, who is first and foremost a wrestler. Furthermore, it’s not like there’s any shortage of actual contenders for Dillashaw’s title — see: the men mentioned in the first sentence of this article.
