Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, estranged former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage to settle their score. It was a wild one while it lasted.

Though Garbrandt very nearly knocked Dillashaw out in the closing seconds of the first frame, Dillashaw bounced back in the second, putting his foe down with a head kick to capture the bantamweight crown.

While a rematch between these two bantamweight stars is certainly possible down the road, their beef appears to be squashed for now.

Post-fight a classy Garbrandt took to Twitter to issue a brief statement, in which he congratulated Dillashaw on the win.

“Live by the sword, die by the sword,” he said in this statement. “I will be back, thanks for all the love and support!! Congrats to [TJ Dillashaw]!”

Dillashaw was quick to issue a classy response.

“Hate or not, present or past, #truewarriors,” Dillashaw said.

Garbrandt also issued a brief statement on Instagram, quoting boxing legend Mike Tyson.

This win was TJ Dillashaw’s third straight, as he defeated Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker by decision in his two most recent outings. In his next most recent fight, he lost a decision to former champ Dominick Cruz.

Garbrandt, meanwhile, has now lost for the first time. He’s now 11-1 overall.
