UFC welterweight Tony Ferguson believes he will one day share the octagon with Khabib Nurmagomedov. ‘The Eagle’ has been out of the cage since his fight with Justin Gaethje in October 2020. After securing a second-round submission, Nurmagomedov retired in the post-fight interview. The Russian later explained that his mother pleaded with him to retire.

UFC 279 featuring Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz got a much-needed boost to its undercard when the UFC announced that Tony Ferguson would be moving up to welterweight to fight Li Jingliang in the new co-main event. It was something of a last-minute addition, as the bout was announced at UFC 278 on August 20, just 22 days before UFC 279 takes place on September 10. And according to Li Jingliang, the matchmaking occurred just hours before the UFC revealed the fight on-air.

Brendan Schaub believes former UFC dual-weight champion Conor McGregor should fight Tony Ferguson next. ‘The Notorious’ has been out of the cage since his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 last July. The fight saw him lose via TKO due to injury, as McGregor broke his leg. Due to the injury, the former champion has been on the shelf for over a year.

UFC welterweight star Nate Diaz is ready to leave the promotion. The Stockton-native has been out of the cage since his loss to Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in June 2021. The loss was his second in a row, having been stopped by Jorge Masvidal back in November 2019. However, the fight with Edwards had importance to it.

The man known as ‘El Cucuy’ has suffered four straight mixed martial arts losses to Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush and Michael Chandler, leaving him on the outside of the lightweight title picture looking in.

Despite that, they never fought. Their five fights were canceled for everything from botched weight cuts to torn ACLs due to tripping over television wires.

Tony Ferguson believes he’d defeat Charles Oliveira in a rematch if he had a real training camp. Ferguson and Oliveira met back at UFC 256 in December of 2020 and it was the Brazilian winning a one-sided decision. However, after the fight, Ferguson made it clear he didn’t have time to train properly for the bout as it was short notice. With that, he didn’t train grappling and now he has taken to social media to say if he has a real training camp he would beat Oliveira if they were to rematch.

His style, combined with his cardio, makes him a force to be reckoned with – even if he’s currently riding a four-fight losing streak.
