A clip of Khabib Nurmagomedov claiming that Tony Ferguson was “finished” as a fighter immediately began circulating the internet following UFC 256. The UFC’s former interim lightweight champion, Ferguson (25-5 MMA), returned to the Octagon in last night’s pay-per-view co-headliner against surging division contender Charles Oliveira (30-8 MMA).

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz took a jab at Tony Ferguson’s jiu-jitsu skills following his lopsided UFC 256 loss to Charles Oliveira. Ferguson was completely dominated for 15 minutes by Oliveira in the co-main event of UFC 256, with the majority of the bout being contested on the ground. Oliveira was not able to score the submission victory but he was able to control the positions on the mat and was able to nearly tap Ferguson with an armbar in the first round. Even without the finish, Oliveira showed that he is the best Brazilian jiu-jitsu player in MMA once again in the fight, while Ferguson showed massive holes in his grappling defense.

UFC lightweight contender Charles Oliveira issued a statement following his lopsided unanimous decision win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 256. Oliveira picked up the best win of his UFC career to date when he defeated one of the best lightweights of all time in Ferguson in a blowout. Oliveira was able to land big strikes early in the fight before reverting to his grappling, which allowed him to absolutely dominate the fight. At the end of three rounds, all three judges scored the bout in favor of the Brazilian, who now has an amazing eight-fight win streak going.

UFC president Dana White discussed what’s next for Tony Ferguson following his unanimous decision loss to Charles Oliveira at UFC 256. Ferguson was the betting favorite entering the fight with Oliveira, but the fight turned out to be a mismatch the other way. Oliveira began the fight extremely aggressively with a wild striking attack on the feet, and soon he was able to get a takedown and control Ferguson on the mat. Although Oliveira wasn’t able to get a finish in the fight — he came close with an armbar at the end of the first round — he dominated the bout for three complete rounds. BJPenn.com scored the fight 30-24 in favor of Oliveira.

Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was clearly watching tonight’s UFC 256 co-main event between Charles Oliveira and Tony Ferguson. Oliveira (30-8 MMA) was returning to action for the first time since submitting Kevin Lee back in March. Oliveira had entered UFC 256 on a seven-fight win streak, with all 7 of those wins coming by way of stoppage. During that impressive stretch the submission specialist had choked out five of his seven opponents.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov has a longstanding rivalry having being booked to fight on five separate occasions in the past. Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have a long history between each other that dates back nearly a decade. The two have been connected to five fights in the past, but they all fell through for various issues. Freak injuries, bad timing, and even the coronavirus pandemic led this dream matchup to fizzle five times. Despite the apparent jinx on making his bout, both Ferguson and Nurmagomedov have said that the fight could still happen one day. However, Nurmagomedov’s apparent retirement changes things.

UFC president Dana White believes that a double weight cut “impacted” Tony Ferguson when he lost by knockout to Justin Gaethje at UFC 249. Ferguson was originally set to fight UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov back in April. However, the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, yet Ferguson decided to stay on schedule and make weight. The UFC was then able to hold an event in May in Jacksonville and Ferguson was matched up against Gaethje. Ferguson cut weight for a second time in a short period of time and then suffered the worst loss of his UFC career as he was beaten to the punch and TKOed in the fifth.

Earlier this week, Abdelaziz claimed that Ferguson’s management company, Ballangee Group, attempted to poach his client Justin Gaethje earlier this year. Gaethje, of course, derailed Ferguson’s 12-fight unbeaten streak in May.

Abdelaziz is the manager of several notable fighters in the UFC including Gaethje, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, UFC bantamweight Frankie Edgar, and many more. Dominance MMA is one of the top management groups in the game today as several of their fighters have become UFC champions, not to mention many of Abdelaziz’s fighters are generally among the most highly-compensated athletes in the promotion.
