Tony Ferguson Sends a Holiday Message to Conor McGregor

By Justin Golightly - December 23, 2017

When we enter into the UFC’s 2018 year, there are a lot of things up in the air. But hey, it’s always good to end on a cliffhanger, right? One of the big mysteries of the new year is just what Conor McGregor is going to be doing. He’s been seen training jiu jitsu and straight up said he’s fighting MMA next, but he could always change his mind. One of the many fighters in three divisions that are waiting for McGregor’s return is interim UFC lightweight champ Tony Ferguson. While we get our last contender fight of the year with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboz at UFC 219, Ferguson waits to see if he’ll unify the belts. With this in mind, he sends perhaps his last message of the year to the Irish ‘Champ Champ’.

Time may be on Tony Ferguson’s side though, he’s on the sidelines himself with an elbow injury. Although, he framed it as a surgery to sharpen his elbows for Conor McGregor. Will we get to see a fight to unify both UFC lightweight titles in 2018? Fans, media, Tony Ferguson and especially the UFC will be hoping that we do. The good thing is that there are no shortage of other fights to make.

From the winner of Nurmagomedov and Barboza’s fight, to self-appointed ‘Most Violent’ champ Eddie Alvarez, El Cucuy does have options in his proximity. However, there has never been a defense of an interim title. The UFC would most likely move to finally strip Conor McGregor and appoint Tony Ferguson the ‘undisputed’ champion if his next fight isn’t McGregor.
