Twitter Beef! Lando Vannata Calls Tony Ferguson a “F**kcing Idiot”
Tony Ferguson‘s last fight, which occured back in July in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was originally expected to be against fellow Ultimate Fighter winner Michael Chiesa. When Chiesa withdrew from the fight with back injury just weeks before the event, however, Ferguson was forced to shift his attention to late replacement Lando Vannata, who made his UFC debut for this last-minute bout.
Given the fact Ferguson was and still is a top-5 lightweight, and that Vannata had yet to even fight in the UFC, most fans expected this one to be a blowout for Ferguson. In the end, however, it was not.
Vannata made it a real struggle for his seasoned foe, wobbling him in the first round and nearly scoring a stoppage as a result. And though Ferguson was ultimately able to bounce back and seal the deal with a second-round D’Arce Choke, it was impossible not be impressed with Vannata, who gave one of the world’s best lightweights a real test on just a few weeks notice.
With this hectic bout in the rear-view, Ferguson and Vannata were expected to go their separate ways. This however, has not been the case, as the two have recently been swapping barbs on social media.
On Tuesday evening, Ferguson took to Twitter to suggest that the reason he didn’t dominate Vannata is because Vannata didn’t “earn his ferocity” – the same ferocity that led him to dominant wins over Josh Thomson and Edson Barboza.
This prompted Vannata to respond by calling Tony Ferguson “a f*cking idiot.”

From there, Ferguson responded by accusing Vannata of using spies in the buildup to their fight.

While Ferguson and Vannata still seem to have plenty of unresolved beef, there is no immediate plan for a rematch between the two.
Ferguson’s next bout will occur on November 5, when he will take on former lightweight champ Rafael Dos Anjos in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico. Vannata, meanwhile, is scheduled for a date with Canadian veteran John Makdessi at UFC 206. That card is scheduled for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
How do you think a rematch between these two talented lightweights would go? Sound off, PENN Nation!
