Tyron Woodley reveals interesting offer he received from Jon Jones
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s next fight is likely to pit him against interim champion Colby Covington — a man known for his willingness to talk trash about pretty much anybody with a pulse.
Over the last few months, Covington has fired his patented verbal missiles at Woodley, Rafael dos Anjos, Darren Till, UFC middleweight champ Robert Whittaker, Former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, Octagon commentator Joe Rogan, even his former roommate, light heavyweight legend Jon Jones.
Apparently, Jones now has enough disdain for Covington that he offered to help Woodley train for the fight. Woodley discussed the conversation he had with Jones on a recent episode of The MMA Hour.
“It funny because Jon doesn’t reach out to me very much,” Woodley said (via MMA Fighting) . “Jon said, ‘Hey, whatever you need, brother. I want to help you.’ I told Jon, I said, ‘Man, you work so hard for your platform, from actually kicking ass and beating legends in their prime, and being one of the greatest fighters we’ve ever seen. Don’t give him your platform.’ Because [Covington] put a post up about him.
“I said, ‘I am going to kick his ass so bad, he’s gonna wish he was dead instead,’” Woodley continued. “‘He’s going to try to find a way out.’ I said, ‘So don’t worry about it.’ The dude was like, ‘It can’t happen soon enough.’”
Woodley also divulged that, if he and Covington cross paths before their fight, they might get a little warmup fight in.
“He might f*ck around and get a fight in the street if I see him close enough,” Woodley said. “He might get it sooner.
“And now that [UFC 225 is] done, [I’ll do the fight] whenever they want to do the fight, if they want us to fight in July, they want us to fight in August, September, November. He ain’t the champion.”
Do you think Tyron Woodley should take Jon Jones up on his offer?
