Tyron Woodley’s plan for Demian Maia’s Jiu-Jitsu: “I’mma bite him”
Earlier this month, #3 ranked welterweight Demian Maia stepped into the Octagon to fight former interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit in a highly anticipated showdown of welterweights with different styles.
While Condit hoped to keep the fight standing and get a TKO win, Maia was able to take the fight to the ground and submit ‘The Natural Born Killer’ in the very first round of their main event scrap.
While UFC President Dana White has stated that Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson will be getting the next welterweight title shot, there has been much talk of Demian Maia getting a title shot given that he’s on a 6-fight win streak.
On his ‘Morning Wood with Deez Nuts’ podcast, Woodley spoke about how he plans on dealing with the Jiu-Jitsu of Maia, saying:
“I’mma just bite him. I’mma bite him, let the referee get mad, (let him) take away a point, and I’m saying ‘whatever’. I’mma get back to my feet, and I’mma knock him down and make it even, then just make it ugly in the next few rounds.”
“Let me tell you something, Maia, you’re a** ain’t getting on my back when we get ready to scrap. You can write that sh*t all day, you ain’t getting back there, bro.”
Maia, who many believe has some of the best Jiu-Jitsu in MMA today, has won 12 of his 24 professional MMA wins by submission. On the other hand, Woodley has never been submitted over the course of his 19 professional fights.
How do you see this potential matchup playing out?
