VIDEO | See Tyron Woodley’s backstage encounters with Conor McGregor and Demian Maia
Last Saturday, in the co-main event of UFC 205, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley attempted the first defense of his crown against streaking striker Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. Given the finishing ability shared by these two fighters, many fans and pundits expected this title fight to end emphatically, one way or the other. In the end, however, it was as close as they come.
After five frenzied rounds of action that saw both men enjoy plenty of success, this fight was ruled a majority draw. With this result, Woodley held on to the welterweight title – though probably not in quite the fashion that he planned.
In the wake of this Fight of the Night winning battle, Woodley and his team have released the latest episode of his eye-opening web series Champ Camp. You can view that episode at the top of this article.
In this latest episode of the series, fans can follow Woodley as he votes in the recent United States election, travels to New York City, partakes in a few interviews, crosses paths with Conor McGregor, and endures his cut to 170 pounds. From there, the video shows the hours leading up to the fight, as Woodley and his team gear up for war both mentally and physically.
The final portion of the episode follows Woodley in the moments after the fight. Clearly disappointed that he walked away with a draw rather than a win, the champ is consoled by his team, Rashad Evans, UFC middleweight contender Yoel Romero, and even welterweight contender and possible future opponent Demian Maia, all of whom assured him that he won.
“You won, just take it,” Evans tells Woodley.
“I think you won man,” Maia says. “I don’t think it was a draw.”
What did you think of Woodley’s classic battle with Thompson, and how did you score the fight? Sound off, PENN Nation!
