UFC 205 now officially has a main event. As we learned earlier this week, the historic card will now be headlined by a lightweight title fight between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, and UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez.

In addition to the fight headlining what many consider to be the biggest UFC card of all time, it will give McGregor the chance to become the first ever simultaneous 2-divison UFC champion.

While UFC President Dana White previously stated that McGregor would be forced to vacate his featherweight title if he did not defend it following his UFC 202 majority decision win over Nate Diaz back in August, McGregor stated at the UFC 202 post-fight press conference that he believed his next fight will likely be at lightweight.

Following the announcement the opening odds for the fight were set by MMAOddsBreaker:

To simplify the above-numbers, with McGregor being a -125 favorite, it would take a $125 bet on the featherweight champ to potentially win $100. On the other hand, a $105 bet on Alvarez, the underdog, would potentially earn you $100.

McGregor will be entering the fight on a win, which returned him to the win column after suffering the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz at UFC 196. The loss to Diaz snapped McGregor’s 15-fight win streak dating back to 2011.

Alvarez on the other hand will enter the bout on a 3-fight win streak that most recently saw him capture the UFC lightweight championship by defeating Rafael dos Anjos. Prior to that, Alvarez picked up back to back controversial split decision wins to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Donald Cerrone in his UFC debut.
