Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson official for UFC 205
While UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley may have been quick to shut down Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson on the Fox Sports 1 post-fight show after winning the welterweight championship, the pair are now slated to fight at UFC 205 in New York.
On the #UFCHidalgo weigh in show, @TWooodley confirms he’ll be fighting @WonderboyMMA at #UFC205 in New York.

The news of the title fight was initially reported by @TalkMMA.
The event, which will serve as the UFC’s historic debut at the Madison Square Garden in New York, could also reportedly play host to a lightweight title fight between Conor McGregor & Eddie Alvarez.
Woodley will enter the fight on a 3-fight win streak that most recently saw him dethrone Robbie Lawler as the welterweight champion back at UFC 201. Woodley rode a 2-fight win streak into his bout with Lawler, which included a KO win over Dong Hyun Kim, as well as a split decision win over Kelvin Gastelum.
Thompson on the other hand will enter the bout on a spectacular 7-fight win streak that most recently saw him pick apart former title challenger Rory MacDonald en route to a unanimous decision win in Canada. Prior to that, Thompson knocked out former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks in the 1st round of their main event scrap, becoming the first man to stop Hendricks in his MMA career.
After winning the welterweight championship, Woodley called for a fight with either Georges St-Pierre or Nick Diaz. However, negotiations between St-Pierre’s team and the UFC are ongoing, and have yet to result in the former welterweight kingpin returning to the Octagon. Nick Diaz on the other hand has yet to pay his $100,000 fine by the NSAC, and as a result is still suspended as a result of a failed drug test.
