UFC 208 event scheduled to take place in Anaheim, California canceled

The UFC 208 event which was scheduled to take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on January 21 has been canceled. There will still be a UFC event in Anaheim but is now scheduled to take place much later in the year on August 5.

The UFC released the following statement on their website on Tuesday:

UFC® announced today that its Jan. 21 Pay-Per-View event at Honda Center in Anaheim, California has been rescheduled to Aug. 5. The event will remain a Pay-Per-View broadcast. UFC 208 will be shifted to the Feb. 11 event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

UFC 209 will now be named UFC 208 and will still take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on February 11. With the change, UFC 210, which is set to take place in las Vegas, Nevada is expected to be titled UFC 209, according to MMA Fighting.

MMA Fighting reports that a lack of main event caliber talent being either booked or injured has resulted in the card not being able to be put together.

MMA Fighting also was the first to report Wilson Reis and Yuta Sasaki as the first official bout that was scheduled to take place at the UFC Anaheim event. In addition, Glover Teixeira and Jimi Manuwa was in the works for the event as well, according to a report by FloCombat.

The UFC has yet to announce any official bouts for the four fighters as of this writing.
