UFC 218, which is scheduled for December 2 in Detroit, Michigan, looks like it could be one of the best fight cards of the year.
The card will be headlined by a featherweight title fight between new champ Max “Blessed” Holloway, and former UFC lightweight king Frankie Edgar. This bout will mark Holloway’s first attempted defense of the UFC featherweight strap, and Edgar’s third attempt to capture it (having twice failed to claim the title from former champ Jose Aldo).
UFC 218’s co-main event, meanwhile, is a perceived heavyweight number one contender fight. In one corner, we’ll have former Strikeforce, Dream and K-1 heavyweight kingpin Alistair Overeem, who will look to build on the momentum of a thunderous knockout of Mark Hunt, and a close decision over former UFC champ Fabricio Werdum. In the other corner, we’ll have surging French contender Francis Ngannou, who is trundling along with a perfect UFC record.
That’s not where the UFC 218 fun ends either. The card will also feature a lightweight showdown between former UFC and Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez, and former World Series of Fighting champion Justin Gaethje, who have been serving as opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter, and a possible flyweight number one contender bout between Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis. Like we said – it’s one of the best cards of the year.
Now, this extremely compelling card has a suitably awesome promotional poster. The UFC released this official poster on Tuesday afternoon. See it below!
