With no fights officially announced yet for the UFC’s return to the T-Mobile arena, it looks like we’ll soon be getting our first.

As the flyweight title is about to be put on the line a rematch as champion Demetrious Johnson defends against Henry Cejudo at UFC 227, another challenger afterward will be needed at some point.

Which potentially leads to this possible matchup.

Ariel Helwani has reported that a bout between No. 2 ranked flyweight contender Sergio Pettis and the No. 5 ranked Jussier “Formiga” da Silva is in the works for UFC 229 on October 6th.

Of course, although there has yet to be anything officially announced, the speculation remains that UFC 229 is most likely to play the host to Conor McGregor‘s return as was reported in June.

With his recent plea deal going through and both sides between him and Khabib Nurmagomedov stating that things are getting close to done, it just feels like a matter of time before we get the official news.

Rising bantamweight superstar Sean O’Malley has also hinted at possibly returning on this card.

For the first fight that is closest to happening though, we get the younger of the two Pettis brothers looking to keep his momentum rolling after earning a massive victory over Joseph Benavidez.

The win made Pettis only the third man to ever defeat Benavidez in his very underrated 30 fight career. The two others being the legendary duo of Dominick Cruz and the previously mentioned “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.

A former victim to Benavidez is Formiga who is very quite possibly the longest tenured UFC flyweight to have never earned a title shot. But after finding himself on a nice two fight winning streak that consists both of rear naked choke submissions, the BJJ wizard is now closer than ever to contesting for the gold.
