Darren Till, weight cut

Last weekend, in the main event of UFC Liverpool, hometown hero Darren Till picked up the biggest win of his career, capturing a unanimous decision win over two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

Regrettably, Till’s win was not without controversy. Not only was his decision win quite controversial, but he also missed weight for the fight, tipping the scales at 174.5 pounds, a significant 3.5 pounds over the welterweight division’s 170-pound limit.

Though Till did not make weight for his Liverpool showdown with Wonderboy, that was certainly not for lack of trying. In a recent behind the scenes video from Paddy Power, we can see just how brutal Till’s cut was. To make matters worse, his incredibly taxing cut was joggled by a family emergency that deprived him of sleep and, perhaps the most valuable resource of all when cutting weight, time.

By the time Till had to pull the plug on his weight-cut, he was clearly having difficulty standing, and was reportedly also having difficult seeing.

See the whole harrowing ordeal in the video at the top of this post (h/t MMANytt).

Do you think Darren Till should consider moving up to middleweight?
