Athlete Outfitting Pay for UFC London: Retiring UK legend Brad Pickett tops payout at $15K

UFC London is now in the rear-view, and it was a good one.

In the main event, we saw England’s own Jimi Manuwa score a crushing, first-round knockout of the game Corey Anderson, flaunting some solid takedown defense in the process. In the co-main event, we saw Icelandic grappling specialist Gunnar Nelson drop Alan Jouban with a punch before locking up a submission for the victory. Elsewhere on the main card, we saw UK MMA pioneer Brad Pickett come up short in his retirement fight, succumbing to a third-round Marlon “Chito” Vera head kick, while rising featherweight prospect Arnold Allen scored a competitive win over fellow prospect “Mr. Finland” Makwan Amirkhani.

With this exciting event in the rear-view, we now know what each of the card’s 22 fighters took home through the UFC’s oft-criticized outfitting deal with sports apparel giant Reebok.

Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.

Under this framework, the retiring Brad Pickett was the card’s biggest earner – a small consolation for his coming up short in his retirement fight. He pocket $15,000 in defeat. The card’s next biggest earners were Jimi Manuwa, Corey Anderson, Gunnar Nelson, Alan Jouban, Reza Madadi, Daniel Omielanczuk, Leon Edwards, Vincent Luque, Brad Scott, and Scott Askham, all of whom pocketed $5,000. The remaining fighters on the card all pocketed $2,500 – the lowest payout possible under this athlete outfitting deal.
