By Chris Taylor - May 19, 2018

The octagon will return to Calgary, Alberta, Canada on July 28 for the promotions UFC on FOX 30 fight card.

Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier

The event, which takes place live from the Scotia Bank Saddledome, is headlined by a key lightweight rematch featuring former division champion Eddie Alvarez taking on surging contender Dustin Poirier.

Eddie Alvarez was last seen in action at December’s UFC 218 event where he earned a third-round knockout victory over the previously undefeated Justin Gaethje in what was widely considered to be the best fight of the year. “The Underground King” has gone 4-1 with 1 no-contest over his past six contests.

Meanwhile, Dustin Poirier is coming off back-to-back TKO victories over opponents Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje respectively. “The Diamond” has gone 7-1 with 1 no-contest over his past nine octagon appearances.

Alvarez and Poirier first met at UFC 211 in Dallas. The fight was amazing while it lasted but unfortunately ended in controversy after Eddie Alvarez landed a pair of illegal knees which ultimately resulted in the fight being ruled a no-contest.

In the co-main event of UFC on FOX 30 former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo will look to return to his winning ways when he squares off with dangerous knockout artist Jeremy Stephens.

Aldo is coming off back-to-back third-round TKO losses to current featherweight champion Max Holloway in his most recent performances. The Brazilian’s last win came at UFC 200 in July of 2016 when he defeated Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision.

As for Jeremy Stephens, “Lil Heathen” has won three straight fights, his latest being a savage knockout victory over Josh Emmett at February’s UFC on FOX event in Orlando.

If that wasn’t enough to already peak your interest, UFC on FOX 30 will also feature a third former world champion in the form of Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

The former strawweight queen will square off with fellow contender Tecia Torres on July 28 in Calgary.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk is coming off back-to-back losses to Rose Namajunas. Prior to that Joanna had gone an undefeated 14-0 holding five UFC strawweight title defenses to her record.

Meanwhile, Tecia Torres recently had her three fight win streak snapped by Jessica Andrade at February’s UFC on FOX event in Orlando.
