Alleged phone-smash victim sues Conor McGregor
According to a report from the Associated Press, which has been confirmed by MMA Fighting, former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor is now being sued by Ahmed Abdirzak, the man who’s cell phone he allegedly smashed in Miami on Monday.
Abdirzak is seeking more than $15,000 in damages, accusing Conor McGregor of battery, assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
This incident, which briefly landed McGregor in jail, occurred early on Monday morning, outside the Fountainebleu hotel in Miami. The arrest affidavit states that Abdirzak attempted to get a photo of McGregor, and that McGregor responded by smashing his cell phone.
In the wake of this event, Abdirzak told the Daily Mail that he was scared for his life.
“He walked away with that trademark McGregor strut that you see him enter the ring with in UFC,” Abdirzak said. “I’m not going to lie, I was scared for my life – the guy is a lethal weapon.”
Samuel Rabin, the attorney representing Conor McGregor, confirmed the Irishman’s receipt of this suit to MMA Fighting. The attorney views this lawsuit as little more than an opportunistic cash grab.
“Our office is in receipt of the civil lawsuit filed today, which is nothing more than a quick effort seeking a payday,” Rabin said.
TMZ recently obtained video of this alleged phone-smashing incident, which can be viewed here.
