Anderson Silva takes another shot at rival Georges St-Pierre
Former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a lot of respect for former welterweight and middleweight champ Georges St-Pierre, but he feels that St-Pierre is averse to high-risk challenges.
Anderson Silva gave his assessment of Georges St-Pierre at a press conference at his new Spider Kick gym on Monday.
“I believe Georges St-Pierre does not take the real challenge,” Silva said (via MMAjunkie). “He just tries to do something easy for yourself, but this is Georges St-Pierre. He’s so smart. That’s the game, that’s the business. He’s a business man.
“For me, I prefer to take real challenge. Don’t put nothing in the mind of my fans, (saying) ‘maybe yes, maybe not.’ That’s why I accepted the fight with (Daniel) Cormier in two days (at UFC 200). That’s the difference … it’s not about fighters – it’s about martial arts. I like challenge and I try to do my best every time.”
This is not the first time Anderson Silva has made comments of this nature about Georges St-Pierre.
In a recent interview with ESPN, the Brazilian scolded his long-time Canadian rival for avoiding big challenges.
“That’s an interesting fight, but Georges has never come to accept the challenge,” Silva said of a potential fight with St-Pierre. “Georges just runs, runs, runs, It’s crazy. I do not think Georges wants the fight — but that’s OK. I respect Georges. He is a great fighter. Maybe he just has a different view — to take easy fights. That’s not me. I like to take the big challenges in my life.”
“Georges is very lucky and very smart. He never goes to take a fight if it’s not easy. That’s the point. Georges, for me, is a great fighter, but he never takes the real challenges in life. That’s my opinion. I respect him, but that’s my opinion.”
