Anthony Pettis targets fight with Conor McGregor after UFC Nashville

By Tom Taylor - March 24, 2019

When former UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis knocked out former welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC Nashville, he joined a very exclusive list of UFC fighters to earn victories in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions. The only other fighters on this list are Kenny Florian and Conor McGregor.

Shortly after UFC Nashville wrapped up, McGregor took to Twitter to congratulate Pettis on joining this list.

“Welcome to the club and congratulations,” he wrote. “Now who fucking wants it?”

Speaking to the media shortly thereafter, Anthony Pettis responded to this message from Conor McGregor, and welcomed a fight with the Irish MMA star.

“That’s a fun fight,” he said (via MMAjunkie). “(He’s) another guy that I love his style, another guy that’s going to be a fun style to fight.

“If he wants to do it, let’s do it. I’m not afraid to fight anybody.”

“If it’s not him, then the next guy in line.”

While both Anthony Pettis and Conor McGregor have picked up wins in multiple UFC weight classes, Pettis seems to like the welterweight division as the setting for this potential showdown. He also mentioned he’d like the fight to occur at UFC 239, which goes down this July in the midst of international fight week.

“We’re both natural, I think, there,” he said. “If it’s not for a title, why cut?”
