Anthony Smith and Dominick Reyes trade verbal jabs after Reyes’ callout

The light heavyweight division has recently begun to see some new talents emerge and leading the charge are the likes of the experienced Anthony “Lionheart” Smith and the young rising contender, Dominick Reyes.

After Smith’s biggest win of his career over the previously No. 2 ranked Volkan Oezdemir in October, Smith now finds himself poised for another big fight but also with a target on his back.

However, for Dominick “The Devastator” Reyes his last win was also the biggest of his young career as he defeated a perennial top 10 contender in Ovince Saint Preux via unanimous decision.

With both waiting for their next opportunities while the division’s title gets sorted out at the end of the month, Reyes took to Twitter to call out Smith which led to a brief back and forth.

Reyes: Hey @lionheartsmith, I was told u turned me down for a #1 contender fight in Jan/233 bc ur hand’s sore, so I guess you HAVE excuses. Heal up, let’s do it in Feb or March, you pick! I’m gonna test that “lionheart”! 😈 #devastated #earnit #notthatman

Smith: Hey
DUMB-anick
Lesson ONE
Don’t turn down fights w/Blachowicz & Manuwa then pretend you want to fight me.
Makes you look both afraid and thirsty.

Lesson TWO
Your name ain’t Jones or Gus, last I checked.

So..
SLOW your STROLL,
you
COWARDLY
TROLL

Reyes: Oh Anthony 😂…Your false bravado is not going to save you! I’m coming no matter what! You can try and talk your way out, and use insults to show your toughness. But, like the Cowardly lion you are Its all talk buddy. Now nutt up and sign on the dotted line.

Smith currently sits in the No. 3 spot in the UFC’s official rankings while Reyes sits at No. 8. Depending on if Smith wants to wait to see how things shake out between the trio of Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson, and Daniel Cormier, we could very well end up seeing Smith vs Reyes in the meantime.
