Bobby Green says he’s the BMF champ of the lightweight division after taking Islam Makhachev fight
Bobby Green didn’t think twice about taking the fight against Islam Makhachev on short notice.
Green defeated Nasrat Haqparast by decision at UFC 271 on February 12 and not even a week later, he agreed to headline UFC Vegas 49 on February 19 as he will take on Islam Makhachev. The Dagestani fighter was supposed to face Beneil Dariush, who unfortunately suffered an injury and was forced out of the bout.
Although this is a chance for Green to fight a top-five opponent, many fans didn’t think anyone would face Makhachev on about 10 days’ notice. However, Green had no problem with that and now, he took to Instagram to say he is the BMF champ of the lightweight champion.
“If they had one for the lightweight division,” Green wrote with a photoshopped picture of him with the BMF belt around his waist.
If there was a BMF belt for the lightweight division, there is no doubt Green would be in the running after this move. He has been in the UFC since 2013 and also competed in Strikeforce where he has fought the likes of Dustin Poirier, Edson Barboza, James Krause, Josh Thomson, Tim Means, and Krazy Horse Bennett among countless others. This will also be his first UFC main event but Green is a live by the sword, die by the sword kind of fighter.
Bobby Green (29-12-1), as mentioned, is coming off the win over Haqparast. It was his second win in a row as he scored a TKO victory over Al Iaquinta at UFC 268. Prior to that win, he suffered a close decision loss to Rafael Fiziev and a controversial decision loss to Thiago Moises.
