Breaking! Daniel Cormier returns at UFC 241 for rematch with Stipe Miocic
UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will return to the octagon on August 17 at UFC 241 for a rematch with former title holder Stipe Miocic.
The promotion officially announced the news during tonight’s UFC Ottawa broadcast.
The announcement comes shortly following the news that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was retiring from the sport of MMA.
Lesnar was expected to challenge Cormier for the title this summer, but the UFC’s new deal with ESPN did not allow Brock to get the flat rate he wanted and so he subsequently chose to retire.
Cormier and Miocic first met at UFC 226 in July of 2018, with ‘DC’ emerging victorious by way of first round knockout.
With the win, Daniel Cormier became the second ‘champ champ’ in promotional history.
Since their first encounter, Cormier has gone on to defend the heavyweight belt on one occasion, defeating Derrick Lewis via submission at November’s UFC 230 event.
As for Miocic, the former ‘baddest man on the planet’ has not competed since his loss to Cormier at UFC 226.
Prior to his title loss to ‘DC’, Miocic had strung together six straight victories, which included a record-setting three title defenses.
