BREAKING | Daniel Cormier vs Stipe Miocic 2 being finalized for UFC 241

WWE star and former UFC heavyweight champion, Brock Lesnar is officially out of the picture when it comes to an MMA return and heavyweight title shot.

And with that news, it’s onto what’s next and that’s a necessary rematch.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has confirmed that the big heavyweight title rematch between champion Daniel Cormier (22-1) and divisional title defense record holder, Stipe Miocic (18-3) is on its way to being finalized for UFC 241 on August 17 in Anaheim, California.

“BREAKING: DC vs. Miocic 2 on tap for UFC pay-per-view on Aug. 17 in Anaheim, California. Both fighters confirm they are in the process of finalizing the bout to @ESPN.” Okamoto tweeted.

The first meeting between the two took place in July 2018 at UFC 226 for International Fight Week in a massive champion vs champion super fight.

Cormier was the light heavyweight king returning to the division that he made his name in. The only thing that he didn’t do during his time in the division was win the UFC title.

Miocic was the reigning champion with three straight title defenses, more than any other UFC heavyweight champion in the promotion’s history.

As anticipated as the fight was, it wouldn’t last too long as Cormier finished Miocic in the first round via a punch followed by some ground and pound.

Cormier has since fought and defended his title once when he took on Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 in November 2018. He would win via second-round submission (rear-naked choke). He relinquished his light heavyweight title in December.

As for Miocic, he hasn’t fought since the first Cormier fight as he’s been adamant on getting his rematch with Cormier.

As for the rest of the UFC 241 card, it is still a freshly announced event as this is the first fight to be reported for it.
