BREAKING | Dillon Danis receives fine, suspension for role in UFC 229 brawl
Dillon Danis has finally received his punishment for his role in the wild, post-fight brawl that followed Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight title fight at UFC 229.
The McGregor stablemate and Bellator MMA star received his penalty at a Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) meeting on Monday morning.
In the end, Dillon Danis received a $7,500 fine and seven-month suspension This suspension is retroactive to the date of UFC 229, October 6, 2018 (via Jason Floyd).
Danis’ punishments is undeniably quite light when compared to those received by the other fighters involved in the UFC 229 post-fight brawl.
Khabib Nurmagomedov received a $500,000 fine and nine-month suspension, which can be reduced to six months if he completes an anti-bullying campaign (though that seems unlikely).
Conor McGregor received a $50,000 fine and a six month suspension.
Nurmagomedov’s training partners Zubaira Tukhugov and Abubakar Nurmagomedov received $25,000 fines and one-year suspensions.
Dillon Danis last fought in early 2018, when he made a successful MMA debut under the Bellator banner, defeating Kyle Walker by first-round submission. The polarizing McGregor training partner claims he was briefly in discussions to return at Bellator 214 in January, but this plan was thwarted by his situation with the NSAC.
With his retroactive suspension handed down, he will be able to fight again on May 6, pending the payment of his fine.
