BREAKING | Max Holloway vs Frankie Edgar targeted for UFC 240
UFC 240 looks to have found its first fight and its one that’s been booked on multiple occasions in the past.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto has confirmed that a featherweight title bout between the champion, Max Holloway (20-4) and former UFC lightweight titleholder, Frankie ‘The Answer’ Edgar (23-6-1) has been agreed to for UFC 240 on July 27 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

“BREAKING: Max Holloway (@BlessedMMA) vs. Frankie Edgar (@FrankieEdgar) is verbally agreed for UFC 240 on July 27 in Edmonton. Story coming to ESPN.” Okamoto tweeted.
This isn’t the first time that the pair have been matched up as they were set to go at it at both UFC 218 and UFC 222 in late 2017 and early 2018.
In the latter booking, Edgar was forced out of the bout with an injury that led to former featherweight champion, Jose Aldo stepping in to replace him. Holloway would win the fight by third-round TKO thus successfully defending his title for the very first time.
The second time around, Holloway was the one forced out of the fight with a foot injury. Edgar would end up taking on Brian Ortega instead and suffer his first career loss via strikes as the undefeated ‘T-City’ got the first-round TKO.
This will be Edgar’s second career featherweight title shot (excluding interim title fights). His first shot came in his divisional debut against the aforementioned Aldo. His last fight took place in April 2018 when he earned his second career win over Cub Swanson at UFC Atlantic City.
On the other hand, Holloway most recently rematched Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier at UFC 236 for the interim lightweight title. Unfortunately for the featherweight king, Poirier would get the better of him once again but this time via unanimous decision opposed to a first-round submission (triangle armbar).
