Brendan Schaub on Khabib Nurmagomedov suspension: ‘I’m hearing a year to 18 months’
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is in hot water.
Shortly after submitting Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229 last weekend, the undefeated Dagestani dynamo vaulted over the cage and attacked McGregor’s teammate Dillon Danis. Moments later, McGregor began exchanging punches with several of Nurmagomedov’s cohorts inside the cage. It was a truly chaotic scene.
As you can probably imagine, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), who oversaw UFC 229, did not approve of this post-fight bedlam. The commission has held Nurmagomedov’s $2 million purse ever since, and is currently preparing to hand suspensions and fines to both him and McGregor.
MMA analyst Brendan Schaub believes he knows the rough length of suspension the NSAC is planning on imposing on Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Speaking on his Below The Belt podcast, Schaub claimed that he’s heard the UFC lightweight champion is in for a suspension of one year to 18 months.

“Khabib’s going to be suspended,” Schaub said. “I’m hearing a year to 18 months. We’ll see. Maybe [UFC President Dana White] can work his magic with the Nevada State Commission.”
This comment from Schaub doesn’t quite line up with the best guess of Dana White, who predicted Khabib Nurmagomedov would receive a suspension of six months and a fine of $250,000.
“I think they should take [$250,000] from him,” White recently told TMZ. “[He] absolutely keeps his title. And he’s going to get suspended, so maybe you give him a four to six month suspension.”
Regardless of the punishments Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor inevitably receive, Schaub is confident we’ll see the pair fight again down the road.
“I think we’re eventually going to see that [rematch],” Schaub said. “Already, Conor versus Khabib is the biggest fight in UFC history. The rematch is even bigger, so of course you’re going to get it.”
What kind of suspensions and fines do you think are appropriate for Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor after UFC 229?
