Brock Lesnar signs new deal with WWE, allowed to take one UFC fight

WWE star and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will indeed be returning to the Octagon at some point in the future. But he’ll also be staying in the ring.

A few months ago Lesnar lost his Universal WWE championship which led us to the confirmation that he would definitely be making his way back to the MMA world.

However, since then he has made surprise re-appearances for WWE and even won the title back thus meaning he will remain a fixture for the WWE at least for now.

The reason for this being as reported by MMAFighting is that Lesnar has signed a new deal with the WWE that sees him with the company through to at least April. Lesnar is allowed to take one UFC fight while under contract as well but the report also states that it’s unsure as to whether Lesnar would take the fight while under contract.

Assuming Lesnar does not return to MMA while under this new deal, he would likely miss out on his chance at taking on the current UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier as Cormier has remained adamant that he will retire in March when he turns 40.

In the post-fight interviews for each of Cormier’s last two bouts, Lesnar was mentioned. In fact, he was there in person when Cormier won the title in July against Stipe Miocic.

For Lesnar, he hasn’t fought an MMA bout since July 2016 when he took on Mark Hunt in what would wind up as a no contest after he failed a USADA test. His last win came in 2010 when he defeated Shane Carwin at UFC 116.

Whether or not Lesnar and Cormier get to fight against each other, it still seems likely that Lesnar will make another return to MMA at some point in 2019. But time will tell.
