Cody Garbrandt reflects on UFC 235 knockout loss
Last Saturday night, in the opening bout of the stacked UFC 235 main card, former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt stepped into the cage with Brazilian contender Pedro Munhoz. The objective for the man they call “No Love” was to rebound from a pair of knockout losses to TJ Dillashaw. Unfortunately for the former champ and his throngs of fans, things did not go as he planned.
Mid-way through the first round, Garbrandt found himself rattled by an inadvertent head butt, and in a dazed frenzy, threw caution to the wind. What followed was a veritable strafing, as the two bantamweights bombed each other with massive punches — many of which landed.
This furious slug fest ended with the former champion crumpled on the canvas.
Speaking on Instagram on Monday afternoon, Cody Garbrandt did some reflecting on this tough loss.
“Kill or be killed that’s how this s**t goes,” he wrote in the caption for this post.
In the second image in this post, Garbrandt included a quote from former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
“In times of adversity and change, we really discover who we are and what we’re made of,” this quote reads.
Garbrandt also added another message to his supporters, and promised his next fight is coming soon.
“I want to thank everyone on this journey!” he wrote. ” I love this fight game. I’m healing up and will be back soon!”
For Cody Garbrandt, this trio of knockout losses follows a perfect 11-0 career start, including a whopping nine knockout victories.
What do you think the future holds for the former bantamweight champion after UFC 235?
