Colby Covington claims Ali Abdelaziz threatened to track him down and murder him
Shortly after UFC 235, Colby Covington had a heated run-in with new UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and his manager Ali Abdelaziz. This run-in actually ended up getting violent, as Abdelaziz could be seen throwing a punch at Covington in video of the event (see it here).
Apparently, however, that’s not where the craziness ended.
Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on Monday afternoon, Colby Covington claimed that Ali Abdelaziz threatened to track him down, shoot him, and kill him.
Jed I. Goodman on Twitter has the quote:
Speaking on the show, Covington also divulged that he’s received a lifetime ban from the Palms casino as a result of his altercation with Kamaru Usman and Ali Abdelaziz.
At this stage it’s unknown whether the UFC or the sanctioning Nevada State Athletic Commission will pursue any kind of discipline against Covington, Usman and Abdelaziz. What is clear, however, is that Covington and Usman will soon have the opportunity to settle their differences inside the cage.
Speaking at the UFC 235 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White explained that he told Colby Covington, in the midst of the crowd, that he’ll receive the first shot at the new champ Usman.
“There was a lot of ruckus going on over there in [Covington’s] area,” White said after UFC 235, referencing a conversation he had with Covington in the crowd. “He almost got into it with mama Woodley at one point and everything else. That was like the third time I’d gone over to him that night.
“So I just told him, ‘Listen, you’re going to get this title shot. Don’t f*ck this up. Just relax. You and all your guys relax. If anything goes down, let our people handle it, and we’re going to take you in the back in a little while here and do some interviews.’ That’s all I said to him.”
Of course, it’s worthing noting that Ali Abdelaziz now has other plans.
