On Monday evening, the Miami Herald reported that former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor had been arrested in Miami after an incident involving a fan and a cell phone.

The Irish star was charged with “strong-armed robbery and misdemeanor criminal mischief” after allegedly smashing the fan’s phone.

Shortly after this initial news, a report from MMAjunkie added that the Miami-Dade County Jail no longer listed McGregor as an inmate, and that he had been arrested and booked with bonds totaling $12,500. In other words, he did not spend the night in jail.

Early on Tuesday morning the Irish MMA superstar issued a quick statement on this latest legal issue. In this statement, he shared his love for his fans and implied that patience is a quality he needs to continue working on.

“Patience in this world is a virtue I continue to work on,” he wrote.
“I love my fans dearly. Thank you all.”

Conor McGregor last fought in October, when he was submitted by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of the record-breaking UFC 229 pay-per-view.

Shortly after this fight, an ugly brawl ensued between McGregor and Nurmagomedov’s teams. In January, McGregor was suspended six months for his role in this brawl. Because this suspension is retroactive to the date of the incident, he’ll be eligible to fight again in April.
