Conor McGregor loses driving privileges for six months

You won’t be seeing former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor behind the wheel any time soon — at least not in Ireland.

The Irish MMA star has had his driving privileges suspended for six months after being booked for excessive speeding near his home city of Dublin. He was also fined 1,000 euros ($1136.62) for this incident.

According to a report from the BBC, Conor McGregor “admitted to driving his Range Rover at 154kph (96mph) in a 100kph (62mph) zone near Kill, County Kildare, in October 2017.”

This latest driving infraction follows 12 other traffic violations that reportedly date back to McGregor’s teenage years.

Judge Desmond Zaidan, who handled this case, scolded Conor McGregor for his recklessness.

“The speed here is in the higher end. Speed kills and that is what makes speeding dangerous,” he told BBC.

“When speeding goes wrong the consequences are catastrophic and life-changing, there is no question about that.

“Sadly we have lost more lives on our roads because of excessive speeding, dangerous speeds and other bad behaviour.”

Conor McGregor last fought in the main event of UFC 229 in early October, when he was submitted by UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Following this bout, Nurmagomedov vaulted over the side of the cage and attacked McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. McGregor then got physical with two of Nurmagomedov’s training partners, exchanging blows with them inside the cage. McGregor, Nurmagomedov and their compatriots are now awaiting punishments from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The group will be disciplined at a hearing on December 10 in Las Vegas, at which point they are expected to be fined and suspended.
