While Anthony Joshua’s title defense opposite the massive underdog Andy Ruiz is dominating the attention of most boxing fans at present, that’s not the only title fight on the docket this weekend. Irish champ Katie Taylor is also set to compete, as she looks to become a unified champ opposite experienced Belgian boxer Delfine Persoon. And as this fight draws ever closer, she’s got the full support of former two-division UFC champ Conor McGregor.

Taylor and McGregor got acquainted in late 2018, when McGregor attended the boxing champ’s fight against Cindy Serrano. The pair of Irish fighters now seem to be good friends, and McGregor has wished Taylor well ahead of her fight this weekend.

“This is one of my favorite pictures,” Conor McGregor wrote in the caption of a recent Instagram post. “What an experience it was to watch this woman fight live! ‬ ‪If I was not in a cast from my own fight preparations, I would be ringside for this fight 100%! ‬Back this woman all the way! ‬Aiming to become the Unified World Boxing Champion this weekend!
The first boxer male or female from the Emerald Isle to ever reach this coveted position! Ireland’s Katie Taylor! What a woman.”

As Conor McGregor mentioned in the Instagram post at the top of this article, he’s currently dealing with an arm injury that he sustained in training. When this injury is healed up, the expectation is that he will compete again, though it’s not clear who or when he will fight.
