Could Conor McGregor’s UFC comeback fight be against Mauricio Ruffy? ‘One Shot’ thinks there’s a chance

Conor McGregor has long teased a UFC comeback fight, and one exciting lightweight thinks he’d be the perfect dance partner.

Mauricio Ruffy is fresh off a much-needed victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC 325. There were a slew of questions surrounding the Fighting Nerds talent after he was submitted by Benoit Saint Denis back in Sept. 2025. Ruffy bounced back with a second-round TKO finish over Fiziev, who has been known to be a dangerous and durable fighter.

Following his big win at UFC 325, Ruffy spoke to Laerte Viana and revealed he’s heard some chatter about potentially sharing the Octagon with McGregor (via Championship Rounds).

“There were comments about me fighting him… In his return, he doesn’t want to fight a guy who’s coming off several losses,” Ruffy said. “He wants to fight a good striker who will drive the crowd crazy.”

In a recent sparring video posted by The Mac Life, McGregor shared some words about his potential comeback fight. The “Notorious” one claimed fans will get to see him at his best when he steps back inside the Octagon.

“I’m 100 percent,” McGregor said. “We’re going in here 100 percent. I’m going into this fight 100 percent Conor McGregor. Not 92! 100 percent Conor McGregor.”

McGregor hasn’t fought since breaking his leg in a trilogy fight against Justin Gaethje back in 2021. He was expected to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 back in June 2024. That plan was derailed after McGregor suffered an injury.

UFC CEO Dana White has ruled out trying to rebook McGregor against Chandler. Meanwhile, McGregor is eyeing a spot on the UFC White House card, but his next fight hasn’t been confirmed at this time. McGregor also said he’ll have to work out a new deal with UFC amid the Paramount+ transition from pay-per-views to live streaming.
