Cyborg to test free agency following UFC 240

One of the top female MMA fighters in the world, Cris Cyborg, will soon be testing the free agent market.

The former UFC featherweight champion will test free agency following her bout against Felicia Spencer at UFC 240 this July in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

“I want to see other promoters, see how much value I have,” Justino said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “I think it’s cool to see that before you can hear anything that you don’t have value. Let’s see. Let’s see what another promoter has to say.”

Cris Cyborg (20-2, 1 NC) is coming off of a surprising TKO loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 232, a defeat which snapped a 13-year unbeaten streak. Prior to losing to Nunes, Cyborg had defeated Yana Kunitskaya, Holly Holm, Tonya Evinger and Lina Lansberg inside the Octagon. However, she has had several run-ins with UFC president Dana White and clearly the issues aren’t fully resolved yet as she intends to test free agency soon.

“The opportunity is coming and I have the opportunity to see my value with other promoters,” Cris Cyborg said.

The former featherweight champ also denied what White said recently when he told reporters he wasn’t sure Cyborg wanted a rematch with Nunes. Cyborg said that she does indeed want that fight again.

“Funny, I was at home and watching the press conference and I cannot believe Dana White said that,” Justino said.

In the interview, Cris Cyborg also said she would consider professional wrestling. But it seems like her focus is on MMA at this point, and possibly boxing. It’s expected that if Cyborg does indeed reach free agency that DAZN may pursue her to step into the boxing ring. MMA seems to be her goal at this point, though.

Of course, she first has her hands full with Spencer at UFC 240. Considering how dominant the Canadian was in her UFC debut against Megan Anderson, Cris Cyborg certainly has her hands full, but a big win her would surely up her value heading into free agency.
