Dana White names next title challenger for Valentina Shevchenko

On Saturday night, after spoiling the UFC debut of former KSW star Ariane Lipski, Scottish flyweight contender Joanne Calderwood made a callout of fellow contender Jessica Eye. According to UFC President Dana White, however, Eye will likely be given the next shot at new UFC women’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko — meaning Calderwood is out of luck for the moment.

Valentina Shevchenko last fought in the co-main event of UFC 231 on December 8 in Toronto, Canada, where she defeated former UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk to capture the vacant flyweight belt. In her next most recent fight, she thrashed the outmatched
Priscila Cachoeira to a stoppage in her UFC flyweight debut. Her last loss occurred in September of 2017, when she lost a close decision in a bantamweight title fight with Amanda Nunes. Valentina Shevchenko is 16-3 overall.

Jessica Eye, meanwhile, is 14-6 overall. Since returning to the flyweight division, she’s gone 3-0, defeating Kalindra Faria, Jessica-Rose Clark, and most recently, Katlyn Chookagian. This success in the flyweight division was preceded by a quartet of losses in the bantamweight division.
