Dana White on Jordan Burroughs in the UFC: ‘I’d be very interested’

By Drake Riggs - May 7, 2019

Last night in Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater, wrestling fans were treated to a dream match at Beat the Streets NYC 2019 between two of the best to ever do it. One of which has been argued as the best.

Jordan-Burroughs-Ben-Askren

The pairing saw 16-time gold medalist world champion, Jordan Burroughs matched against undefeated top UFC welterweight contender and former Bellator and ONE Championship king, ‘Funky’ Ben Askren.

As anticipated as the match was, it wasn’t all that long or all that competitive as the legendary 30-year old in Burroughs would dominate the MMA star on route to an 11-0 victory.

In the build-up to the match, Burroughs would let it be known that he does have some interest in competing at least once in an MMA fight.

Appearing Tuesday on The Jim Rome Show, UFC President Dana White would be informed by the host, Jim Rome, that Burroughs made easy work of one of his new stars and most talented MMA wrestlers in the sport’s history.

Despite not knowing the result beforehand, White was still very much interested in the idea of someone like Jordan Burroughs competing for him.

“Yeah, listen, I’m always interested in, you know, these guys that are considered the best athletes in whatever it is they do wanting to come to the UFC,” White said. “Yeah, obviously I’d be very interested.

“Askren is a very interesting guy. He and I have a long history of smack talk between us, and then he retired and was interested in coming into the UFC, and I think timing is everything, and the timing was right for him to come, and he’s been fun since he’s been here.“

Whether or not we’ll ever see Burroughs in the UFC, let alone an MMA enclosure at all, remains to be determined. But one thing’s for sure, if a competitor of Burroughs’ caliber was to make the cross over to MMA, it would be hard to imagine that he wouldn’t find at least some success.
