Dana White on status with Khabib Nurmagomedov, ‘We’re good. He’s staying.’
The madness that was UFC 229 hasn’t slowed down all too much since the event itself concluded. But all appears well again in UFC land.
After some newly acquired fame, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has been all the rage since successfully defending his title against Conor McGregor.
Since then the champion has threatened to leave the UFC if his teammate gets released, discussed going to Bellator with 50Cent and called out Floyd Mayweather.
Despite all that, UFC president Dana White says that things are all good between Nurmagomedov and the organization in which he holds a title for as he told TMZ.
“We’re good. We’re good with Khabib. I don’t know [who he’s going to fight next]. We haven’t talked about that yet. He’s doing this whole tour right now, he’s going to UAE, he was over with [Vladimir] Putin…he’s doing all this stuff. Let this guy enjoy his win and then we’ll figure that out.
We’re all good. We worked it out. We’re gonna get everything worked out. Obviously, he was a little upset and a little fired up…and yeah. We’ll get it all worked out. Listen, guys get very emotional, man. That was a very emotional fight for him, obviously.
At the end of the day, Khabib’s a great guy. We’ve always had a great relationship with him.”
As for Nurmagomedov’s teammate, UFC featherweight Zubaira Tukhugov, his fate remains to be determined.
“Well, [Khabib’s] staying in the UFC. He’s staying. This will all work out. I don’t know what’s gonna happen [with Tukhugov]. We’ll see how it plays out. Khabib’s happy.”
Nurmagomedov’s win over McGregor extended his perfect record to an incredible 27-0. He and McGregor are currently awaiting their punishments from the NSAC for their post-fight actions at UFC 229.
