Dana White praises ‘best ever’ Amanda Nunes after UFC 232 destruction of Cyborg
On Saturday night, Amanda Nunes become the first woman in UFC history to win titles in two different divisions, and one of just three fighters ever to wear belts in two UFC divisions simultaneously. Nunes achieved this incredible feat by bludgeoning the seemingly unbeatable Cris Cyborg in just 51 seconds to capture the UFC featherweight title, which joins the UFC bantamweight title on her crowded mantle.
With this incredible win, Amanda Nunes now holds first-round stoppage victories over Cris Cyborg, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champions Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate. She also owns a pair of victories over reigning UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko.
Based on these accomplishments, many members of the MMA community are now confidently calling her the best female fighter of all time — and UFC President Dana White agrees.
“She’s the best ever. How can you deny it? You can’t deny that she’s the best ever. That’s what this fight was for,” White said at the UFC 232 post-fight press conference (transcript via MMA Fighting). “This fight was to find out. But if you look at her resume and who she beat, she’s the best ever. Nobody can dispute that. You can try, you can say some stupid shit, but she’s the best ever.”
Like the rest of the world, Dana White was thrilled by the fight itself, which saw Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes swap nukes from the opening bell.
“The roof came off that place when that fight ended,” White said. “It was as exciting a fight as you’ll ever see and what makes it even bigger are the stakes. You have two of the baddest women fighting to see who the baddest is.
“Both world champions in two different weight classes and they come out and start bombing like that. There’s nothing more fun. You couldn’t ask for anything better and that type of a fight with what was at stake.”
Do you consider Amanda Nunes the GOAT after her unbelievable win over Cris Cyborg?
