Dana White reacts to Donald Cerrone offering to step up and fight at UFC 234
When Donald Cerrone caught word that tonight’s UFC 234 headliner had been cancelled he immediately reached out to UFC President Dana White offering his services.
Shortly after the shocking news broke that reigning UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker had been forced out of tonight’s main event with Kelvin Gastelum due to an injury, “Cowboy” took to Twitter with the following message.
“Well I’m in Australia @danawhite ‘I know a guy!'” – Donald Cerrone
When UFC President Dana White caught word of “Cowboy’s” courageous offer to fight Kelvin Gastelum on just a few hours notice he responded with the following.
“He’s absolutely NUTS and I love it!!!” said Dana White of Donald Cerrone. “Gonna be a sad day when he retires @cowboycerrone.”
Donald Cerrone, who holds the most wins in UFC history, was most recently seen in action at last month’s event in Brooklyn.
That night at the Barclay’s Center, “Cowboy” defeated Alex Hernandez via second-round TKO.
Cerrone’s impressive showing on ESPN caught the attention of former UFC “champ champ” Conor McGregor.
It is expected that Donald Cerrone and “Mystic Mac” will collide inside the cage later this year.
As for this evening, despite offers from both Donald Cerrone and Chael Sonnen to step up on short-notice, the UFC has opted to remove Kelvin Gastelum from the UFC 234 lineup.
Tonight’s UFC 234 event will now be headlined by a three-round middleweight bout between Anderson Silva and Israel Adesanya.
Are you at all surprised that Dana White and the UFC did not take Donald Cerrone up on his offer to help save tonight’s UFC 234 event in Australia? Sound off in the comments section PENN Nation!
