Dana White says it ‘means nothing’ to him that fans, fighters are upset about UFC 232 relocation
UFC 232 is now underway — but not in Las Vegas, as initially planned. Instead, the card goes down inside The Forum, in Inglewood, California, outside Los Angeles. That’s because the UFC moved the card, in its entirety, from one city to the other, after the Nevada State Athletic Commission refused to license former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones for his main event title fight with Alexander Gustafsson. This unprecedented move, which occurred on just six days’ notice, caused massive headaches for fighters and fans alike — but UFC President Dana White says that “means nothing” to him.
“When I pull the trigger, man, we roll,” Dana White told MMAjunkie of the controversial decision to move UFC 232 from Las Vegas to LA. “I don’t ever go, ‘We made the wrong decision.’ I don’t listen to criticism. Other people’s opinions mean nothing to me. I make decisions, and we roll. That’s it.”
White added that, despite this last minute relocation, UFC 232 will go down in front of a solid-out crowd. Apparently, this fact has been enough to satisfy some of the fighters on the bill.
“I heard some of the fighters saying, ‘Stop talking to us about this [change]. We’re good. We’re in L.A. We’re fighting.’ The arena is sold out,” he said. “Making this move I thought we might do a $300,000-$400,000 gate right after Christmas. We killed it. This thing’s sold out. We’re going to put on a great show (tonight), and the fight is going to be awesome.”
