Dana White says Kamaru Usman will fight for title, but it might not be against Tyron Woodley

Earlier today, on an episode of MMAjunkie Radio, manager Ali Abdelaziz claimed that streaking welterweight contender Kamaru Usman will “100%” get the next crack at UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, apparently at UFC 235 on March 2 in Las Vegas.

Kamaru Usman, UFC 251

Shortly thereafter, UFC President Dana White confirmed to MMAjunkie that Kamaru Usman will fight for the welterweight title next — but it might not be against Tyron Woodley. The UFC boss says Usman will fight for the welterweight title with our without Woodley.

“That fight is happening or Usman vs. someone for the title,” White told MMAjunkie via text message.

What this comment from Dana White means for Tyron Woodley is not clear, though it seems like the UFC boss is prepared to strip the welterweight champion of his title if he doesn’t accept a fight with Usman.

Tyron Woodley, of course, has said that he’s willing to fight Kamaru Usman — he was just hoping to fight his arch rival Colby Covington first.

“I want to whoop Colby’s ass to be honest,” Woodley stated on a recent episode of The Hollywood Beatdown. “Because they done built this dude up. They allow [Colby] to annoy the universe with his terrible sh*t. He’s garbage. I think it is just way more to sell this fight, and the [UFC] is not going to allow me to fight a guy like [Conor] McGregor, or let me go up a weight class. I’ve never been allowed to go up a weight class to fight for a title. I have asked to do it a million times. [Michael] Bisping, then they let GSP [Georges St-Pierre] come in and fight him.”

“So if those fights aren’t on the table, I’m gonna end up fighting [Kamaru] Usman anyways, so let me fight Colby first! Let me get this bag right quick, and let me whoop his ass!”

All that being said, Tyron Woodley has also recently claimed that Colby Covington “b*tched out.”

Whatever the case, things are getting pretty complicated at the top of the welterweight division.

Do you think we’ll see a fight between Kamaru Usman and Tyron Woodley next?
