Dana White shares three possible options for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s next fight

There has been plenty of speculation regarding what will be next for the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov after his big title defending victory against Conor McGregor at UFC 229. Well, the boss has given us some clarity.

Since the conclusion of the event, we’ve seen boxing matches with Floyd Mayweather get teased and even a report for a bout with Georges St-Pierre being in the works.

However, none of these things will really matter until the Nevada State Athletic Commission hands out their punishments for Nurmagomedov on December 10.

The punishments, of course, being for the post-fight antics between Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s teams at UFC 229.

Despite this, Dana White still felt that Nurmagomedov had the stand out performance of 2018 and shared possible next options for the lightweight king when speaking with ESPN.

“I think you’d have to look at the Conor McGregor-Khabib Nurmagomedov fight. [It] broke records, incredible fight, Khabib wins, which sets up possible fights with Tony [Ferguson] and [Dustin] Poirier and Conor. Like I said in every division I could crank out two or three different things that are fun and exciting for either the end of this year or next year.

I don’t know if the immediate rematch [between Khabib and Conor] happens because we got to see what the Nevada State Athletic Commission hands down in December when that hearing happens.  So I’m not even thinking about that, I’m thinking about possibilities in the future but, right now, not even worth thinking about until we find out what happens in Nevada.”

We have recently seen teasings from both Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier that they could be getting something lined up for their next bouts. And because of the timing of that, it kind of makes one think that it could be for a bout against each other.

McGregor, on the other hand, seems like the most ‘business logical’ option despite being thoroughly beaten by his Russian counterpart. But if that happens, it will obviously have to wait until next year.
