Daniel Cormier reveals he’s in talks for WWE commentary gig

By Tom Taylor - October 21, 2018

UFC heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier is set to defend his title against Derrick Lewis in the main event of UFC 230 on November 3 in New York. Cormier accepted this fight on short notice, agreeing to headlining honors after the UFC struggled for weeks to lock down a suitable main event for the card.

Apparently, Daniel Cormier actually had some pretty interesting stuff going on too — stuff he put off to take this UFC 230 fight with Derrick Lewis.

“If I didn’t have this fight, I have been talking to the WWE, because they wanted me to go in and do an audition as a member of the commentary team,” Daniel Cormier told reporters at the UFC 230 media day this week (transcript MMA Fighting). “That was my private little thing. But because of the fight, I had to push it back. So there might be some DC in WWE shit coming.”

For Daniel Cormier, a long-time pro wrestling fan, the opportunity to work with WWE boss Vince MacMahon is an exciting prospect.

“I like it,” Cormier said of a potential WWE gig. “I want to freak out. I want to freak out next to the thing with Vince in my ear saying, ‘Say this, you asshole!’ Because I heard Vince tells you what to say. I’m like, ‘OK, Vince.’ Don’t be surprised if I’m on TV and a couple times I go, ‘OK, OK, OK, OK.’ And just say it.”

Whatever happens with WWE, Daniel Cormier assures the UFC will always be his home.

“I never want to not be in the UFC,” the heavyweight champ explained. “I love calling fights. I just love being part of the UFC, man. It’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of.

“[WWE is] new. It’s something new, right? This is home. Over there is new. And most times, new is fun and exciting. But I love being home. This is my place. I love the UFC.”

Do you think we’ll hear UFC heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier on WWE broadcasts in the future?
