Darren Till offers to step in against Robbie Lawler — with a catch

By Tom Taylor - May 17, 2019

This morning, we were hit by the unfortunate news that former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has withdrawn from his UFC Minneapolis headlining rematch with Robbie Lawler with a hand injury. The good news is that the UFC is working on finding a replacement opponent for Lawler. Former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till is hoping to make their job a little easier.

Speaking on his official Twitter account, which he recently reactivated, Till offered to step in against Robbie Lawler in the UFC Minneapolis main event. His only stipulation is that the fight be contested at 175 pounds rather than 170 as originally planned.

“Yes [Robbie Lawler] I’ll meet you at 175 in 6 weeks for a tear up Yeno wa time it is” – Darren Till on Twitter.

Darren Till is currently riding a two-fight losing streak — the first two losses of his career. In the first of these setbacks, he was submitted in a welterweight title fight with Woodley. More recently, he was knocked out by Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC London.

Robbie Lawler, meanwhile, last fought at UFC 235, when he came up short in a controversial fighter with former ONE and Bellator champ Ben Askren. In his next most recent fight, he was defeated by Rafael dos Anjos. These losses were preceded by a decision defeat of Donald Cerrone, and a knockout loss to Woodley, which signalled the end of his title reign.

Does a 175-pound fight between Darren Till and Robbie Lawler interest you? Do you think the UFC will book the fight for the UFC Minneapolis main event?
