Derrick Lewis believes he’d be ‘high as hell’ on Joe Rogan’s podcast if he wasn’t gearing up for Daniel Cormier fight

Earlier this month, on the main card of UFC 229, streaking heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis picked up one of the biggest wins of his career, surging back after two tough rounds to knock Alexander Volkov senseless late in the third. The knockout itself wasn’t the only reason this fight was significant for Lewis, however.

During his post-fight interview with UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, Derrick Lewis stripped down to his underwear and announced unabashedly that his “balls was hot.”

As you can probably imagine, this hilarious line was a hit among fans. Lewis instantly gained hundreds of thousands of new followers on his social media channels and became one of the most popular fighters in the UFC heavyweight division.

Given his spike in popularity, Derrick Lewis believes that he would probably be getting high on Joe Rogan’s podcast right now — if he weren’t gearing up for a short-notice, UFC 230 title fight with heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

“I’d probably be in LA,” Lewis said at the UFC 230 media day earlier this week, explaining what he’d be up to if he hadn’t accepted his short-notice fight with Cormier (via MMAjunkie). “Where’s Joe Rogan’s podcast at? LA? I’d probably be in LA right now, baked. [I’d be] high as hell right now, probably.”

Because he did accept this fight with Cormier, Derrick Lewis is now focused on winning the UFC light heavyweight title. That being said, however, it doesn’t sound like he’ll be too disappointed if the fight doesn’t go his way.

“I will try to win the belt, but I really don’t care about if I get it or not,” he said.

His tentative plan is just to step into the cage with Cormier and do what he does best: fight.

“I’m not a mixed martial artist,” he said. “That’s probably what they’re looking at. I don’t blame them. I don’t train like a mixed martial artist. I don’t respect the sport like everyone else does. I’m just a brawler.

“I go in and fight just to fight. I don’t care about the submissions and the technique, and the bowing and showing respect. I don’t care about none of that. I’m just coming to fight.”
