Derrick Lewis has ‘to right the wrong’ with Francis Ngannou rematch

This Saturday night the UFC heads back to Kansas state for UFC Wichita. In the event’s featured attraction, we’ll see two heavyweight knockout artists throw leather.

On one side of the Octagon will be former UFC champion, Junior ‘Cigano’ Dos Santos. Standing across from him will be none other than ‘The Black Beast’ Derrick Lewis.

As the owner of the most knockouts in UFC history alongside Cain Velasquez with 10 to their names, Lewis’ second most recent victory came in one of the most uneventful decisions of all time.

That bout came in the co-main event of UFC 226 in July 2018 when Lewis faced fellow devastating puncher, Francis ‘The Predator’ Ngannou.

It was a highly anticipated bout between two of heavyweights most powerful hitters. Yet no one could have assumed that just from watching their fight.

Since then, Ngannou has turned things backs around and scored two big knockout wins in less than a minute each. And because of how the first fight played out, despite getting the win, Lewis would like a rematch.

“I would like to fight him again,” Lewis told MMAjunkie. “If he gets to the title, then yes, I’ll fight him again. I would love to fight him again if he gets the title shot.

“I have to right the wrong. I can’t retire without fighting Francis again – at least gettin’ a good shot on the guy. Goddamn, I wish I would have gotten a good shot on him. We’ll see how this year plays out.”

For Derrick Lewis, his most recent outing came at UFC 230 in November 2018 when challenged for the UFC heavyweight title for the very first time. Unfortunately for the Black Beast, he would suffer his first defeat via submission when Daniel Cormier sunk in a rear-naked choke in round two.
