EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington questions Tyron Woodley’s recent criticism
Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley is a fight MMA fans are looking forward to. Ever since Covington defeated Rafael Dos Anjos in June to win the promotions interim belt, fans and analysts have been debating if “Chaos” is the man to dethrone “The Chosen One”.
Fans initially expected to get that answer in the fall of 2018. However, after an injury to Covington, Woodley ended up fighting Darren Till in September. “T-Wood” would cruise to a second-round submission win over Till at UFC 228, once again proving himself as the best welterweight fighter in the world.
Shortly following Tyron’s victory over Till, Covington called out the reigning UFC welterweight champion for a fight at UFC 230. Unfortunately, Woodley had sustained an injury in his fight with the Liverpool native, and thus could not participate at the November 3 event.
With that being said, Colby Covington believes Tyron Woodley is definitely trying to avoid him. Woodley has stated on numerous occasions that Covington would be “an easy fight” and “easy money” for him. So why hasn’t Woodley accepted the fight?
“Yo, TyQuil. I’m not saying NyQuil. There’s a new thing that’s been replaced,” Covington said on this past episode BJPENN radio. “If you have a sleeping disorder, just get TyQuil, Tyron Woodley, the gossip girl. You need to stop running, man. Stop f*****g making up all this s**t, all these lies. Oh, you can beat me easy. If I’m such an easy fight, come get this easy fight, mother f****r. You got my belt. You got something that belongs to me. So keep it warm for me because I’m coming to get it, mother f****r. F**k you, Tyron Woodley.”
Covington and Woodley are both products of American Top Team. Having trained together in the past, “Chaos” is convinced that he is a bad match-up for Woodley. Covington claims that he even took Woodley’s soul during their scraps at ATT.
“I’m the number one contender. I’ve beaten these guys that Tyron fought,” Covington added. “I beat these guys a lot worse than Tyron beat them. So at the end of the day, I’m ready to fight Tyron at a week’s notice, a day’s notice, whenever he wants to go. But it’s ducking season. He’s going to be ducking me for a while. He’s fought me in the gym, and I’ve taken his soul in the gym. So he knows I’m a bad match-up, and he’s going to try and duck me as long as he can.”
Ultimately, it does seem that a Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley title fight will be booked next. Who do you think will emerge victorious as the UFC best 170-pound fighter?
