Frankie Edgar says underdog status against Max Holloway similar to UFC 112 fight against B.J. Penn

In the main event of UFC 240, Frankie Edgar will once again be fighting for a UFC belt when he takes on Max Holloway.

However, the oddsmakers don’t favor “The Answer” to win this fight. He is a +350 underdog, given he is just 1-1 in his last two. And, his last win was against Cub Swanson back in April of 2018.

But, Frankie Edgar has been preparing a long time to fight Max Holloway and believes he knows what to do in order to get his hand raised.

“Max keeps getting better and better every fight, but some guys just do stuff that they always do,” Edgar said to MMA Junkie. “And those are the things we’ve been working on since the very first camp we started getting ready for him.”

If Edgar does beat Holloway it would be considered a big upset. But, it wouldn’t be the first time he upset a Hawaiian to win a UFC title. At UFC 112, Frankie Edgar was fighting B.J. Penn for the UFC lightweight title. There, “The Prodigy was as a -780 favorite, while “The Answer” was as a +725 underdog. Ultimately, Edgar shocked the world and beat Penn to capture UFC gold.

“A little over nine years ago, I fought a guy I wasn’t supposed to be in there with, who was supposed to wipe the mat with me, and I proved some people wrong,” he said of his win upset over Penn at UFC 112. “So this is definitely a familiar position for me.”

In the end, Frankie Edgar will need to initiate his gameplan if he wants to leave Edmonton with the belt. But, if UFC 112 taught us anything, it is to never count out Frankie Edgar.
