Georges St-Pierre feels there’s ‘more to lose than gain’ vs Anderson Silva at this point

When it comes to the MMA super fight, there is one matchup that was once the one that was truer than any other possible pairing.

That, of course, being none other than the fantasy fight between two of the sport’s all-time greats, the welterweight division’s best, Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre and middleweight’s best, Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva.

Debates about who would beat who if they were to ever meet raged on for years after year during their epic title reigns and the arguments still happen to this day. However, it’s likely a debate that will never see an answer as too much time has passed.

For Georges St-Pierre, he last fought in his big comeback bout at UFC 217 in November 2017. In his return after a four-year break, he challenged the then middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

This was St-Pierre’s debut at 185-pounds as well as a historic moment that saw him become a dual division champion.

St-Pierre’s last fight prior to the Bisping bout was his title defense against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167.

The Canadian icon recently revealed that it was after this fight that he had been offered a bout with Silva for the second (and currently final) time in his career.

“I took a break with Johny Hendricks, a month after that, Dana [White] text me [asking] if I want to fight Anderson Silva,” St-Pierre told Fight Nation. “I didn’t want to fight nobody. I said no. I took four years off.

“Now things are changed. Silva [has] lost, now it’s not as interesting, you know what I mean. There’s a lot more to lose than gain.”

Interestingly enough, as St-Pierre has made it clear this whole year since his last fight, he only wants big and meaningful fights where he can do something never done before. One of those things in his opinion being a possible fight against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Why that could be interesting when regarding Silva is because The Spider is currently set to return at UFC 234 when he takes on Israel Adesanya. And according to Silva, a win would earn him a title shot.

Obviously, a lot needs to happen there to fully pique GSP’s interest…but crazier things have happened.
